German scientists speculate that it might be because the puppies were exposed to biliverdin, a green pigment produced in the placenta that is associated with bile. Strange as it may sound, this pigment can occasionally give puppies a brief green tint at birth.

When Louise Sutherland initially saw Rio’s green fur, she was taken aback by her surprise emerald-colored puppy and couldn’t believe what she was seeing. “We were in shock,” she remarked to The Sun. The green puppy’s story swiftly went viral and won people over all over the world.

The intriguing thing is that the green hue isn’t there for very long. Their devoted mother’s soothing baths helped the green to gradually disappear. This unusual tiny puppy soon resembled his siblings in appearance. However, Louise didn’t care about that. She had already developed a unique relationship with him and had chosen to name him Forest in honor of his remarkable beginning in life.
