Real reason Donald and Melania Trump are ‘remodeling’ the White House

Donald and Melania Trump are living at the White House for a second time. The couple moved back to Washington after the former real estate mogul’s election win in November of last year, and, like any other presidential couple, they have decided to update the furniture and other items at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

However, this time around, they have done more than that. For example, the historical Rose Garden has been turned into a tiled seating area, which many have complained about. So why did they do that? Well, there might be a reason for it, according to a source.

The Rose Garden became somewhat of a historical and mythical place at the White House. It was commissioned by President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, and was intended to be a place of great significance.

“President Kennedy wanted an outdoor room,” Stewart McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association, told NPR. “He wanted a space where you could have outdoor meetings, receptions, events.”

However, as Donald Trump returned to the White House for a second term, things changed. Instead of green grass, the area has been covered with a tiled patio.

“The grass was wet. Their heels are going through the grass, like, four inches deep,” Donald Trump has previously explained on the decision to remodel the Rose Garden. “It’s a stone that’s the same color as the White House itself. And because it’s very white it’s going to reflect the heat. It’s not going to be very hot, like if you had a dark stone,” Trump explained recently.

Real reason Donald and Melania Trump are ‘remodeling’ the White House
While Donald Trump and Melania have been engaged in several projects remodeling the White House, the real reason behind it has not been clear. However, it may have now found its answer.

Speaking to People Magazine, a source said that Donald and Melania actually “would prefer to be in Palm Beach.” Therefore, they’re “bringing Mar-a-Lago to Washington” instead.

“Their plans for the White House are being implemented to remind them of Mar-a-Lago,” the source added. “That way, when they aren’t in Palm Beach they are there in the mind.”

Another source, identified as a “Mar-a-Lago club member,” told the news outlet that the president and first lady are very proud of the decorations in their Palm Beach home. So much so that they believe it “makes sense” to make the same type of changes at the White House.

“Anytime Melania and Donald can make the White House feel more like Mar-a-Lago, they will,” the source explained. “They love Mar-a-Lago. Not only is it their home, but Donald personally created much of the current decor and takes pride in living there and showing it to other people.”
