Melania Trump sent a message to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as he was welcomed to the White House during a glitzy dinner last night.
The Trump family is known for elaborate shows of grandeur, and this state dinner was no different – and Melania dressed for the occasion.
Mohammed bin Salman welcomed to Washington DC by Donald Trump
The Saudi Crown Prince is currently in the US capital to meet with Donald Trump and his family to discuss a number of issues, giving Trump a break from the all-encompassing Epstein chat.
Last night there was a fancy dinner at the White House in honor of the guests from the Middle East, and a whole host of stars turned out.
Not just the two big heads of state, but also Elon Musk, Tim Cook, and even soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been playing in the Saudi Pro League for several years now.
But, even with all of those stars on show, it was Trump’s wife Melania who caught the attention through the symbolism of her outfit.
That’s because she wore a dress that was a very specific – very Saudi – shade of green.
Melania Trump isn’t always the center of attention
Melania isn’t known for grabbing headlines, unless they are bizarre ones about her having a body double, or something like that.
She doesn’t spend all of her time at the White House and appears at state events in often understated fashion.
However, the importance of this particular event clearly made an impression, as she wore a dress that invoked the colors of the flag of her visitors from Saudi Arabia.
There was more significance to it as well.
The cadmium green dress, which retails at $3,350 – so not even a Trump tariff dividend check could buy one – was designed by Lebanese designer Elie Saab, who held a massive Middle Eastern fashion show last year in – you’ve guessed it – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
That show became one of the centerpieces of Riyadh Season, part of Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 to make his country one of the cultural hubs of the world.
It’s hard to know whether this effort went unnoticed or not, but it certainly caught a few eyes around the world.
