Manager Forced Waitress to Serve Leftovers to Foreign Customer, Life Taught Him a Lesson Immediately — Story of the Day

Higashi, a Japanese tourist, entered a restaurant expecting a warm meal.

Andy, a seasoned waiter, had a cunning plan for non-native customers who didn’t speak English. He served Higashi reheated leftovers and robbed him. Andy thought he’d get away with it, but this time, he was sorely mistaken. During the dinner rush at Sizzling Steak, Louise, a new waitress, noticed a middle-aged Japanese man, Higashi, impeccably dressed in a kimono and overcoat.

He scanned the room before settling on a corner table. Louise greeted him warmly, but Higashi struggled with English, requesting a steak and rice bowl. Louise explained they didn’t have rice bowls, offering fries instead. Higashi nodded, accepting her suggestion. As Louise moved to clear a half-eaten steak from the counter, Andy stopped her, insisting she serve it to Higashi. Despite her protests about serving cold food, Andy pressured her, citing Higashi’s inability to speak English as an excuse. Higashi, realizing the food wasn’t what he ordered, objected. Andy intervened rudely, demanding Higashi eat the cold steak and making racist remarks. Feeling ashamed and pressured, Louise served the food as Andy ordered. When Higashi tried to leave, Andy noticed the cash in his wallet and concocted a plan to swindle him further. Andy promised a better meal to Higashi, but his intentions were sinister. He spilled sake on Higashi’s coat, offering to clean it, only to steal money from its pockets. Louise, appalled by Andy’s actions, managed to retrieve the stolen money and return it to Higashi using a translator app to explain. A police officer arrived, prompted by Andy’s false accusations against Louise and Higashi. Andy produced a video showing Louise taking money, but Higashi revealed his identity as a journalist and proved the money was his. The officer confirmed the truth, leading to Andy’s arrest. Grateful, Higashi offered Louise a job opportunity in New York for her bravery and honesty, leaving her with a promising future.

I SLEPT UNDER A BRIDGE — BUT MY DOG KEPT ME WARM, ALIVE, AND HUMAN People think rock bottom is when you lose your home, your job, or your family. They’re wrong. For me, it was the day I realized no one had said my name in two weeks. Not once. Except for him—Bixby. My dog. He didn’t speak it, of course, but every morning he’d look at me with those big, patient eyes, tail wagging slow and steady, like I was still worth something. Like I was still his person. We’d already been through hell together—eviction, shelters turning us away because of “no pets,” nights curled up under an old tarp while the wind cut through us. And still, he never strayed. Never stopped pressing himself against me in the cold like he could keep the world away just by staying close. Once, after two days without food, someone tossed a sausage biscuit from a car window. I split it right down the middle, but Bixby just nudged his half toward me with his nose. His eyes said, You first. I can wait. That moment cracked something in me. I started carrying a cardboard sign—not to beg, but to tell people who we were. Because strangers saw the dirt, the frayed hoodie, the unshaven face. They didn’t see him. They didn’t see how he kept me alive in more ways than one. And then last week—just as I was packing up to move spots—a woman in scrubs stopped in front of us. She looked right at me, right at Bixby… and said five words that changed everything. (continue reading in the 1st comment)
