Cara Brookins, a mother of four escaping an abusive marriage, took an extraordinary step to rebuild her life. With little money, she decided to construct her own home by learning building techniques from YouTube.

Purchasing land and a construction loan, Cara and her kids, aged two to seventeen, built a 3,500-square-foot home.

Despite challenges, they completed the house, named Inkwell Manor, in nine months.

Cara’s inspiring journey is captured in her memoir, “Rise: How a House Built a Family,” showcasing resilience and the power of determination.
