Husband Plants 6,000 Trees To Honor Deceased Wife, 15 Years Later Photos Reveal His True Motive

In a touching tribute, British man Howard Howes created a heart-shaped memorial for his late wife, Janet, by planting thousands of oak trees in a six-acre field near his farm in Wickwar, Gloucestershire. The clearing in the center is carefully positioned to point toward Janet’s childhood home on Wotton Hill, linking her memory to her roots.

Howard and Janet married in 1962, and she passed away in 1995 at age 50 due to heart failure. Stricken by grief, Howard envisioned a symbolic heart in her memory. He planted the oak trees around the perimeter and added a seat in the center, providing a quiet space to reflect on their life together.

For years, the heart-shaped meadow remained a secret until hot air balloonist Andy Collett, 42, flew overhead and spotted the striking design. Collett described it as the most remarkable view he had ever seen from the sky, calling it a hidden and powerful expression of love.

Howard had hired help to plant the trees and added hedges to frame the heart. In the center of the clearing, daffodils bloom each spring, enhancing the beauty and symbolism of the site. Occasionally, Howard visits to sit quietly and remember Janet, keeping her memory alive in a peaceful setting.

The tribute was designed with precision: the point of the heart aligns with Wotton Hill, connecting the memorial to Janet’s childhood home. Over the years, the trees have grown into a flourishing woodland, while the meadow at the center remains a preserved space for reflection.

Howard even had the chance to fly over the site himself, seeing firsthand the love-filled legacy he created. From above, the heart-shaped clearing is a striking and enduring symbol of devotion.

The memorial demonstrates how grief can inspire acts of beauty, transforming loss into something tangible and lasting. It provides a place where memories are honored and love is celebrated, offering both Howard and visitors a serene sanctuary.

Howard Howes’ heartfelt project ensures that Janet’s memory will continue to grow with each passing year, a testament to love, dedication, and the quiet power of remembrance.
