Amanda Seyfried says she’s “not f***ing apologizing” for ‘hateful’ Charlie Kirk comment

Actress Amanda Seyfried was heavily criticized after her controversial comments in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death in September. She called the political influencer “hateful,” and received a lot of hate herself. Does she regret it? In a new interview, the star says she won’t apologize for it.

Charlie Kirk’s death sent shockwaves worldwide. Many praised the political activist for his bravery and for speaking his mind, while others criticized him for dividing rather than including. Several celebrities spoke out, including Jamie Lee Curtis, who later had to clarify her remarks.

Another person was Amanda Seyfried. The actress called Kikr “hateful” on Instagram following the tragic assassination on September 10. Seyfried received significant criticism for her choice of words.

A week after Kirk’s death, she condemned the killing, although she denounced Charlie Kirk’s opinions.

“We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity,” Seyfried wrote. “I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.”

She added, “No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?”

In the post’s caption, she wrote, “I don’t want to add fuel to a fire. I just want to be able to give clarity to something so irresponsibly (but understandably) taken out of context. Spirited discourse — isn’t that what we should be having?”

On Wednesday, Who What Wear released an interview with Amanda Seyfried, where the subject came up. Now, two months later, she still says she refuses to apologize for calling Charlie Kirk “hateful.”

“I’m not f***ing apologizing for that. I mean, for f*** sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course,” she told the outlet.

The Mamma Mia star admitted she considered deleting her comment, but ultimately decided to leave it for everyone to see. As she recevied a lot of hateful messages herself, her family and friends were concerned for her safety.

“Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized — which is what people do, of course,” the actress added.
